Office equipment and mail specialist Pitney Bowes is to hand over the running of its UK shared service center to Accenture by June next year. Accenture, an international management consultancy and technology company, will take control of Pitney Bowes' back office operations, including accounting and sales order processing.
The move, which the company says is necessary to run the business as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible, puts 113 positions at risk. Many of those employees are expected to be laid-off, although 34 new positions will be created and some workers may be redeployed.
In a statement, regional vice-president UK Stuart Bonthrone said: "We regret the job loss resulting from these actions but we will work with all affected employees to help them transition to other endeavours."
He added: "As the marketplace has changed, our company has also changed the ways in which we work and the ways in which we deliver value to our customers and shareholders.
"We are taking these actions to enable us to create a platform for sustainable growth."
