i2 Technologies, Inc. announced that a subsidiary of i2 has acquired the assets of RiverOne, Inc. RiverOne’s software helps high-tech companies manage and control partner-based business operations. RiverOne’s customers, focused in electronics, ranged across all supply chain roles and sizes from small subsystem OEMs to the largest EMS providers.

“Supply chain management today is a multi-enterprise challenge. The next generation of supply chain solutions must address multi-enterprise business processes,” said i2 Chief Executive Officer Michael McGrath. “By acquiring RiverOne’s software, i2 adds a multi-enterprise execution platform that extends our supply chain collaboration capabilities. This is also strategic for i2 because it allows us to further expand our customer base in electronics manufacturing where i2 has a significant market share.”

“Now that i2 is on solid financial footing we can evaluate strategic acquisitions that will leverage our growth,” commented McGrath. “As part of our growth strategy, we are open to acquisitions that will expand our customer base, as well as those that will enable us to add products and services for our current customers. RiverOne fits that profile.”

The deal highlights four key supply chain software market themes: continued consolidation, emergence of the on-demand model, focus on multi-tier optimization, and i2’s continued recovery.

While the RiverOne solution has been targeted primarily to the electronics and contract manufacturing market, supply chain changes in other industries, such as offshoring and outsourcing, means these kinds of capabilities likely will also be of value there.
