Opposition treasury spokesman Richard Mulcahy is calling on the Australian Capital Territory Government to outsource its debt collection process.
Mr Mulcahy says over $21 million is oustanding in unpaid taxes and fines.
He says a private company would be more efficient in collecting fines more than three months' overdue.
"It's indefensible this level of funds is out there owing and the Territory hasn't got their act together to collect these things when they could go to a private company and have these funds collected under some sort of a commercial arrangement," he said.
